I can hardly believe that it is the end of 2020. So much happened but hardly anything did, if you know what I mean? The whole world changed and had to stay home to keep people safe and stop the spread of the disease. Now we have two types of vaccine to protect our nation and we can finally see light at the end of the tunnel after being separated from our friends and family, hearing of devasting blows they've endured along with harrowing world news daily. It's still going to be a tough few months getting back to any sort of normal once the most vulnerable have been vacinated but at least now there is light.
The things I am most looking forward to in 2021 is the opportunity to hug my closest friends and family. It has felt so alien to have to keep a safe distance from those you love. My mum said yesterday that she is looking forward to moving back into Tier 3 - not something she thought she would ever say. Being denied something makes you crave it more. It's a distant memory that in March, we were all panicking about the lockdown potentially lasting two weeks - in comparison, that now that seems like a dreamy scenario, even with life saving vacinations on the horizon.
If you've read the children's story A Squash and A Squeeze by Julia Donaldson, it reminds me of the coronavirus situation but in reverse. The things we used to moan about, we will relish having back. In the story, a woman wishes she had more space in her home but then an animal comes to live with her and takes up half her space, then more and more animals end up moving in, until she hardly has any room to herself at all. By the time they have all moved out, she can hardly believe how much space her cottage actually has. This will be like many of us post coronavirus injections - we will go back to our previous lives and wonder what we used to moan about as we had so much freedom, health and safety.
