Smoothing Lady

Updated: May 22, 2019

My ironing pile is as high as my waist. My family's clothes are all crammed into a massive basket, which is supposed to be a laundry basket. But, after years of crunched up cellulite garments, ready to be reborn as actual things to wear, I have finally discovered the art of 'smoothing'.

My sister and friend have been whispering about this method for years but I did not hear them because I had my fingers in my ears. Then this week I started to panic as I am due to start a job tomorrow and I won't have as much time to do the chores as I usually do. I relocated the smoothing tidbit in my brain and had a go on some freshly dried laundry. Lo, and behold, it worked.

Obviously, shirts still need to be ironed but I have halved the workload just by folding and smoothing instead of ironing. Hanging up shirts and dresses on hangers also helps the creases fall out - who knew? Most people, apparently.

The problem of when to watch all my saved up programmes has now entered my head but to be honest, instead of being all snuggly in my utility room, ironing away with steamed up windows while watching BBC iPlayer on my laptop, I can now just lay back on my sofa and enjoy relaxing in front of the TV at the end of the working day along with the rest of my family.

Who knew?! You’re too funny. I also have the dreaded pile of doom....about once every three washes I get my shit together and do the smoothing....and what a difference. I just need to learn and be consistent..or get an ironer, along with my imaginary cleaner. how did the job go?
