When the sun was shining, I spent most of my days gardening or happily sat reading in my deckchair, occasionally popping into the kitchen for a refreshing drink to cool me down. Whenever I did go inside, I looked aghast again at the grime on my kitchen cupboards and promised myself that I would clean them meticulously as soon as we had a rainy day. Well, that rainy day eventually came and my heart sank. All the other chores I had added to my mental list now scrolled on and on until I just felt my shoulders slump and the words BORING screaming in my ears. There was nothing else for it but to go and lie on the sofa and continue reading my book. Ha ha, that would show my kitchen who was boss.
We all know that doesn't really work though, as if I did that with all the housework, rats would scurry about and I would be closed down. I had big plans to tackle the cobwebs, de-clutter and make my rooms sparkle but now I have the time to do those things, I just think 'meh'. I would much rather read, write, chat, eat and watch something distracting but I know I had better get on with it. So, now I have given myself a loose timetable to do chores in the morning, have lunch, read and then do something creative in the afternoon. Today I am writing this and then pre-recording my usual monthly radio show (third try lucky - much easier live in the studio).
My housework this morning only included washing up the mountains of plates, cups, saucepans, wine glasses, and cutlery that pile up every single day after feeding a family of four breakfast, snacks, lunch, snacks, dinner, snacks and more snacks. A load of washing is always spinning around and then it's lunchtime again. So, I'll add on to tomorrow's list cleaning those damn kitchen cupboards - meh!
Mom had 6 of us kids , she said as soon as we are done eating to do the dishes & you feel so much better after wards than seeing a sink full of dishes . We are all grown now .but I still do what she taught me same as soon as I get up in the morning to make my bed she had us do that as well.Mom will be 94 & still does what she taught us .
