Make Do and Mend...

So, the 'larder', or 'food wardrobe' as I call it has been re-arranged to within an inch of its life by my older daughter and my husband. We've been using up all the already-opened packets of pasta, noodles, etc, and have finished off the rice. Tins of beans have gone down plus all the soup. Frozen fruit has been added to peanut butter on toast for breakfast and my stash of petit pois have been devoured.

Now, we are ready to start again with the Gousto orders, which I love because it saves going food shopping, which I hate. It saves on wastage of food as exactly what you need for each recipe is delivered. I pour a glass of wine, put the radio on and swish about the kitchen, mindfully chopping this and that according to each recipe card and dishing up a gourmet meal for the family four nights a week. On the other other evenings, we can use up whatever else is lurking in the cupboard.

I haven't bought any new clothes all month which I'm very proud of myself for. I gave four bags of stuff to charity and brought four items there, which were:

A black dinner jacket that I've always coveted for £3

A red White Stuff jumper for £2

A sheepskin coat exactly like the one Christine Keeler used to wear (scream) for £20

A tweed coat from Hobbs for £25

Barg-a-larger!

I'm not a natural seamstress but in my 'mending pile', I have an old lavender eye mask which I used nightly to help me get off to sleep. The scent has totally disappeared so I have freshly picked lavender from my mum's garden that I plan to add to into my eye mask, once it's been gutted, washed and then I'll stitch it up.

I'm so pleased that I'm finally getting into healthy spending habits and instead of going out shopping, I've been walking more, gardening, reading, watching TV dramas and films, having coffee with friends instead of going for lunch and de-cluttering the house.

I must admit that I haven't been so healthy in other ways, as my January has been more wet than dry, as I've been working my way through all the biscuits, cakes, crisps, red wine and prosecco left over from Christmas. I've never had a happier January. I fancy doing 'Sugar Free February next, so watch this space...
