I've been pretty much managing one walk a day since lockdown began but today I only went and did two walks. On one day. I know. I still measure in miles so I did a two mile walk with my older daughter and younger doggie this morning. I remarked that it was like being on holiday in Thailand, with the beautiful, lush green surroundings and humid weather but my daughter said she was happy where she was. It was drizzling rain but this just made it refreshing.
After lunch, I drove over to meet my mum and walk in the woods that back on to her house. Again, it felt like I was somewhere far flung, like a Tasmanian rainforest - the trees were such a vivid green and a heavier rain was falling overhead but we were sheltered so avoided getting wet. My mum said my dad would have reacted like my daughter and been more than content knowing he was near home. We walked and talked for about two or three miles. I'm rubbish at maths but I'm sure I walked about 5K in total today.
This summer, I think I am going to enjoy more of these walks. It can be my vacation as each hour out of the house, being in nature, enjoying new views is like taking a mini break. Meeting up with friends or family for socially distanced walk and talks are good for the soul. Last week I met two friends on different days by different bodies of water and both felt so uplifing and restorative, hearing the ripple of birds floating along is music to my ears.
Now I am recovering on the sofa, a blanket over my legs, a drink in my hand and looking forward to an evening of bliss, snuggling up with my family and watching something funny on TV, like The Other One...
5km = 3.1 miles so you did a lot further than that today!
