Bank Holiday Staycation

This August Bank Holiday weekend, my family stayed at home. In the past we have driven hours longer than necessary to reach the coast but then been rewarded by scorching good times at the beach or we've had a camp out with other families in our garden. This year, however, it was just three family members and our two four legged friends.

I had to work on the Friday but it was fairly quiet with a smattering of friendly people popping in the Optician's. I went to view a friend's private viewing of artwork in the early evening and have a glass of fizz. Back home to a home cooked meal with my husband and older daughter. The younger daughter was rocking and roasting at Reading Festival.

On Saturday, we had some dear family friends over, that we hadn't seen for years. The weather was beautiful and we had a lazy day in the garden catching up and catching some rays, waiting for the BBQ to cook the lamb marinated in mint and eat with lentil curry and salad. It was a tonic to reminisce and dissolve into fits of hysterical laughter, like old times.

Sunday, my sister drove my older daughter, niece and I to Westfield, where we walked many steps in between eating noodles and devouring coffee and cake. It was actually quite blissful to be inside and air conditioned, mooching around the shops as if we were in a museum looking at items of rare beauty and chatting away.

By Monday, we were too hot to walk through the woods to the pub and the dogs were having none of it, so we drove there for brunch, which turned into lunch, instead. The rest of the day was spent laying in the shade reading and occasionally dipping into our plunge pool (unheated hot tub) to cool down, dry off in the sun and go back to reading in the shade - sheer bliss. My husband collected my younger daughter in the afternoon and we delighted in her stories and the fact that she was full of beans after a shower at her friend's house and a full day's sleep.
