So, I have survived day one of my No Spend November. Firstly, instead of going for coffee out with a friend, we enjoyed one in the comfort of her home and I got to see her cute dog, gorgeous interior and embroidery creation she is working on. I also got to meet another friend of hers, who popped in for a cuppa. It felt like the old days, before coffee shops and when that was the main way to see friends during the daytime - in our own houses. I brought fresh flowers from my wild flower garden in an old jam-jar as my visiting gift. It was relaxing, charming and fun - plus there was free parking - always a bonus.
Secondly, instead of going out shopping and spending money, I started the de-cluttering process in my Study and filled six bags with books, old clothes and Tupperware, ready for the charity shop, which have been languishing there for months. I also put aside a laundry bag full of special clothes and books for my niece and nephew, which my daughters have grown out of.
Now, is where I come unstuck because I have found myself in a dilemma...you see, my older daughter was invited to her best friend's house for dinner at the last minute and my younger daughter asked to go to her boyfriend's house and he has kindly said he will escort her home on the train - and who says chivalry is dead? That leaves my husband and I with the rare chance to have a night to ourselves. As we are taking our daughters to the cinema tomorrow night for a family treat, that we arranged before my hair brained scheme, we won't be able to indulge in our weekly traditional curry takeaway, so...
My husband says he will pay for us to go out to eat! Yay!!! I still won't to have spent a penny, even though I'll be reaping the rewards of a delicious meal and not only that, but it won't be a takeaway, which usually means I have to drive to collect it, then wash up afterwards. This means I get to have food prepared for me and it cleared away afterwards, This is a win-win situation for me.
Bon appetite!
